    Mavs end first Division I season with overtime loss

    Brandi Schambough’s 3-pointer with eight seconds left in overtime gave Louisiana-Lafayette a 62-60 win over the UNO women’s basketball team Monday. Stacia Gebers missed a shot at the buzzer that would have tied the game, and the Mavs finished their first season in Division I with a 15-12 record. Heather Pohl, in her final game at UNO, led the Mavs with 16 points, going 4 of 6 from 3-point range.

The first-year coach, charged with taking his program to Division I, didn't get a lot of size when he brought in freshman Taijhe Kelly this summer, but he did get a whole lot of height.

    Frauendorfer leads Mavs past Privateers

    Paige Frauendorfer scored a career-high 26 points and added 12 rebounds as the University of Nebraska at Omaha women’s basketball team cruised past New Orleans 88-57 Saturday. Taijhe Kelly added career highs of 14 points and 18 rebounds for the Mavs (15-11). Her rebound total tied for eighth-best in school history and gave her the first double-double of her career.

    If the UNO women's basketball learned anything in its last home game of the year on Senior Night, it was how to stop an opponent from draining one 3-pointer after another and taking the game over. "Guard her, to be honest with you," UNO coach Chance Lindley said. "That would be my recommendation."

    Hegge, USD hold Mavs to season-low point output

    Amber Hegge, a Crofton, Neb., native, scored 14 points as South Dakota handed the University of Nebraska at Omaha a 58-38 loss Tuesday. The Mavericks (13-11) scored eight points in the first half, finishing with their lowest scoring output and shooting percentage (23.2 percent) of the season. South Dakota (16-6) didn’t fare much better, shooting 28.2 percent overall and 3 of 27 from 3-point range.

    Timeouts can't ice Nash in UNO win

    Sioux Falls coach Travis Traphagen has seen enough field-goal kickers miss big attempts after a timeout, so he figured it was worth a shot. With his team clinging to only its second lead of the game at 68-67 with 3.1 seconds left, he called timeout before UNO's Jamie Nash went to the line for the first of two free throws.

    UNO spent most of the last 10 minutes trying to overcome damage done in the previous 12. In the end, there just wasn't enough time or energy left in what turned into a 70-59 loss to Western Illinois before 431 Monday night at Sapp Fieldhouse.

Future Summit League foe Western Illinois, which the Mavericks knocked off 65-58 in Macomb, Ill., Dec. 20, comes to Sapp Fieldhouse for a 7 p.m. game Monday.

    The UNO women’s basketball team picked up its second win over a Division I team this season, knocking off Texas-Arlington 60-52 on Tuesday. Jamie Nash scored 17 points and Paige Frauendorfer added 16 points and eight rebounds as UNO improved to 12-9 while recording its second Division I road win.
