    Mavs end first Division I season with overtime loss

    Brandi Schambough’s 3-pointer with eight seconds left in overtime gave Louisiana-Lafayette a 62-60 win over the UNO women’s basketball team Monday. Stacia Gebers missed a shot at the buzzer that would have tied the game, and the Mavs finished their first season in Division I with a 15-12 record. Heather Pohl, in her final game at UNO, led the Mavs with 16 points, going 4 of 6 from 3-point range.

The first-year coach, charged with taking his program to Division I, didn't get a lot of size when he brought in freshman Taijhe Kelly this summer, but he did get a whole lot of height.

    Islanders take two from Mavs

    The University of Nebraska at Omaha capped its opening weekend with a pair of losses at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Sunday, falling 3-2 and 7-2. In game one, freshman Alex Mortensen and senior Scotty Donner drove in runs for the Mavericks (1-3). Corpus Christi broke a 2-2 tie in the seventh with Jeramie Marek's walk-off single.

    Walters leads way for Mavs’ comeback

    Ryan Walters scored two third-period goals Saturday night as UNO rallied from a 3-1, late second-period deficit for an important 5-3 victory over Nos. 14 and 15 Colorado College. Walters scored a short-handed goal to tie the game just 2:48 into the third period after stealing the puck from steady defenseman Gabe Guentzel and breaking away alone against goalie Josh Thorimbert. He beat him with a high backhander.

    Mavs fall against Alabama State

    The UNO softball team finished play at the Lady Hornet Invitational with a 4-0 loss to host Alabama State on Saturday. The Mavs' second game of the day against Savannah State was canceled after heavy rains moved into the area. Lauren Larson went 3 for 3 for the Mavs (2-5), who finished with six hits against the Lady Hornets (1-6).

    Frauendorfer leads Mavs past Privateers

    Paige Frauendorfer scored a career-high 26 points and added 12 rebounds as the University of Nebraska at Omaha women’s basketball team cruised past New Orleans 88-57 Saturday. Taijhe Kelly added career highs of 14 points and 18 rebounds for the Mavs (15-11). Her rebound total tied for eighth-best in school history and gave her the first double-double of her career.

    UNO splits opener against Corpus Christi

    The University of Nebraska at Omaha baseball team split a season-opening doubleheader at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Saturday, falling 3-0 in the opener before a 2-1 win in the nightcap. Islanders starter Adam Hoelscher threw a five-hit shutout in the opener, and UNO committed three errors.

    Disallowed goal thwarts Mavericks' comeback bid

    UNO, playing from behind all night, appeared to have achieved a tie Friday in the first game of its crucial series with Colorado College, but a goal with 2:56 left in regulation was ruled to have been kicked into the goal intentionally by Dominic Zombo. The reversal helped Colorado College hold on for a 4-3 victory before 6,942 at World Arena, allowing the Tigers to take sole possession of fourth place in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association.
