The restaurant said on its Facebook page Thursday that the two remaining locations of Blanc, in Kansas City, Mo., and Leawood, Kan., will accept any unexpired coupons for the Omaha location, which closed that day.

Owner Ernesto Peralta said he could no longer divide his time between the Omaha location and the other locations.

“We tried to do as much as we could,” he said. “We are sad to leave Omaha.”

Molly Skold, spokeswoman for Midtown Crossing, said there already is interest in the restaurant's space.

“We do have a potential tenant looking very closely at that space,” she said. Skold also said an announcement is pending on a new tenant for the former Parliament Pub space.

Where wheat comes from

A field-to-table tour of where wheat comes from is the focus of a one-day conference at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

During the “Breeding and Growing Organic Wheat for Bread Quality and Health” seminar, participants will go to one of UNL's organic research fields to learn how wheat works in an organic farm rotation, view cover crops used with wheat and learn about experimental lines of organic wheat. Lunch, catered by Lincoln's Open Harvest, will feature local artisan breads and will be followed by a panel discussion from local bakers who will talk about artisan bread and flour.

Shelly Asplin, a registered dietitian, and Mary Schluckebier of the Celiac Sprue Association will talk about the challenges of growing grain for people on gluten-free diets. Richard Little, UNL organic wheat breeding specialist, will share research results for wheat antioxidants and wheat quality and USDA wheat geneticist Bob Graybosch will highlight breeding efforts for specialty wheat traits.

The conference runs from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Monday and is open to the public. The event takes place at the Agricultural Research & Development Center, near Mead, and the cost is $15. To register or for more information, call Liz at 402-309-0944. For a lunch reservation, call Pat at 402-584-3837.

New bar to open in time for CWS

College World Series fans take note: Blatt Beer and Table opens Monday.

The restaurant, adjacent to TD Ameritrade Stadium, will open with a limited menu but a full beer list, and the Zesto window on the south side of the building will serve ice cream items.

Blatt will have a tent, drink and beer cart on its ground-level patio during the CWS that will hold about 400 people and a second-floor open-air beer garden, also for 400. The bar and restaurant also will have live music during the series.

The restaurant, at 610 N. 12th St., opens at 4 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday. Starting Wednesday, it will open daily at 11 a.m.
