House of Loom will celebrate Cinco de Mayo for a full 12 hours Saturday.

It will start with an old-fashioned sidewalk party in front of the club, 1012 S. 10th St., said Loom event and marketing curator Brent Crampton. The party will include Cinco de Mayo essentials — a margarita bar, tacos served with fresh guacamole and a DJ playing all kinds of Latin music. It will also include stuff you wouldn't expect from a dance club, like Mexican folk art and literature on the history of Cinco de Mayo.

“We try to have an aspect of fun, of celebration, of letting loose, of dancing,” Crampton said, “but we want to do things where we can educate people as well.”

The education will move inside at 7 p.m. for a tequila tasting, and at 9, three DJs will play a wide range of Latin music: salsa, cumbia, merengue, tribal, Latin house, moombahton (a fusion of house music and reggaeton) and more. Cover after 9, $5; admission before then is free.

And Loom's party is one of many this weekend. A few others:

Brix, 225 North 170th St.

Brix will kick off the weekend celebrations Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. with a free tasting of 22 different types of tequila. Brix will also offer tastings for eight Mexican or Mexican-styled beers and eight different Moscatos Friday evening.

La Mesa, 84th Street & Tara Plaza

At La Mesa, the celebration begins at 11:30 a.m. with an hour of piŮatas for the kids and photo opps with Snoopy. Events throughout the rest of the day will include mechanical bull rides, a taco-eating contest, food and drink specials and live music with Grand Theft Girlfriend. Capitol Lounge, 1011 Capitol Ave.

Events will kick off at 4:30 p.m., with judging of the best sombrero and mustache. At 5 p.m., a sombrero and mustache march led by a mariachi band will depart Capitol to several other downtown bars — Michael's, Roja, Eat the Worm and Julio's. A bus will pick up revelers at Julio's, and transport them first to Cantina Laredo and then back to Capitol.

Brewsky's, 84th Street and Park Drive

Brewsky's is celebrating with a bunch of all-night specials — $3.50 Coronas, $4 margaritas, $5 Patron Silver tequila shots and $5.99 nachos — and Groove Puppet will play original rock and covers. The party begins at 8 p.m.

Cantina Laredo, 120 South 31st Ave., Suite 5107

Cantina Laredo will begin celebrating early with two new margarita flavors available through Saturday. The Sweet Heat 'Rita is a spicy blend of Corazon Blanco Tequila, Cointreau Orange Liqueur, strawberry purťe and Monin habaŮero lime; the Cinco Mas ‘Rita has Giro, Hornitos, Herradura, Cazadores and Cabo Wabo Blanco tequilas, with Cointreau Orange Liqueur, lime juice and agave nectar.
