TERRE HAUTE, Ind. — It took 22 hits and some gutty relief pitching — from the catcher — to help the University of Nebraska at Omaha rebound from giving up a two-run lead in the bottom of ninth Sunday at Indiana State.
The Mavericks snapped their eight-game losing streak with a 7-4 win in 12 innings.
In the top of the 12th, Dylan McGill’s double scored the go-ahead run for UNO (12-32). The Mavs added insurance runs on Brady Hohl’s RBI single and Colby McCord’s run-scoring double.
McCord, who caught the first 11 innings, made his second pitching appearance of the season in the bottom of the inning. After an opening strikeout, the Sycamores drew two consecutive walks. But McCord rallied to strike out the side, earning his first save.
Hohl, a senior from Millard North, finished with five hits and two RBIs. McCord, a senior from Papillion-La Vista, added three hits while freshman Alex Mortensen drove in two runs.
UNO returns to action for a three-game series at Kansas State beginning Friday.
