Low tack shelf liner
.Draw stars (or other simple shapes) on low-tack shelf liner paper, cut them out carefully with a craft knife, then stick them all around the lampshade. These become a kind of reverse stencil.
.Smear an oil-paint stick (we used Shiva brand Artist's Paintstik) on a paper plate. Wipe a cosmetic sponge into the smear, then rub the paint over the edges of the stencils always working from the centers of the stickers out and onto the lamp.
.Continue to apply the paint until the lampshade is colored to your liking. Carefully remove the stars and allow the lampshade to fully dry.
.If you've cut out the stars carefully, you now should have several traditional stencils ready for use on a nearby wall or ceiling. Affix them in place and apply latex wall paint with a pouncing motion.
