A Bellevue East freshman was taken to an Omaha hospital in serious condition Monday after being struck by a car on her way to school.
A spokesman for the Creighton University Medical Center said Emily Beach had improved to fair condition by the afternoon. Beach is ninth grader at Belleve East High School.
Lt. Bill McClintick, a spokesman for the Bellevue Police Department, said the girl was crossing High School Drive about 7:30 a.m. when the accident occurred.
Investigators determined that John Murillo of Bellevue was driving a 1995 Honda Accord east on High School Drive after turning off Lincoln Road and didn’t see the girl because of glare from the sun.
McClintick said Murillo was not ticketed. — Kevin Cole
