The Visiting Nurse Association's Art and Soup event on Sunday will feature artwork from more than 50 artists and soups created by chefs from Omaha and Council Bluffs.

This is Art and Soup's 15th anniversary, and the VNA will recognize longtime supporters Hal and Mary Daub.

Artists donate a minimum of 50 percent of the proceeds from sales of their works to the VNA. The art this year includes paintings, sculptures, jewelry and artist demonstrations.

Attendees can bid on art and vote for their favorite soup. Desserts, coffee and live entertainment are also part of the afternoon.

All the proceeds support the VNA's local shelter nurse programs, which provide public health services for children and adults living in homeless shelters in Omaha and Council Bluffs.

In 2011, the event raised more than $140,000 for the program.

Art and Soup takes place at the Embassy Suites La Vista Hotel and Convention Center from 2 p.m to 5 p.m. Tickets are $50 in advance and $55 at the door. A patron ticket is $100 and includes admission to a pre-party that begins at 1 p.m. and the chance to bid first on the art. The patron ticket also includes admission to the main event. Tickets are available at www.theVNAcares.org or by calling 402-930-4170.

Movie review: 'Transcendence' ends up quite ordinary

“Transcendence,” a sci-fi thriller about an attempt to meld the human mind with technology, falls far short of transcendence. So far short I had to fight off sleep.
