ARLINGTON, Texas — The UNO women’s basketball team picked up its second win over a Division I team this season, knocking off Texas-Arlington 60-52 on Tuesday.
Jamie Nash scored 17 points and Paige Frauendorfer added 16 points and eight rebounds as UNO improved to 12-9 while recording its second Division I road win.
UNO never trailed after Heather Pohl broke a 21-21 tie with a 3-pointer with 3:33 left in the first half.
UNO took a 28-26 lead into halftime, then gained control as it opened the second half on a 9-1 run to go up 37-27. Frauendorfer had five points sandwiched around consecutive fastbreak layups by Nash and Zenta Liepa. Nash recorded steals on three straight Texas-Arlington possessions in the span of 63 seconds to spark UNO’s run.
UNO expanded the lead to 52-39 — its biggest of the night — on a basket by Nash with 9:42 left. But Texas-Arlington (3-14) scored the next 10 points to pull within 52-49 with 5:58 to play.
Nash knocked down three free throws to put UNO back up 55-49, and after one UTA free throw, Liepa drained two more to make it 57-50 with 2:49 left. Texas-Arlington scored to pull within 57-52 and had the ball with less than one minute to play, but Nash came up with another steal and passed to Frauendorfer for a fast-break layup to secure the victory.
Nash hit 4 of 5 free throws, leading the Mavs to a 12-of-14 performance from the foul line.
Desherra Nwanguma led Texas-Arlington with 14 points and 14 rebounds.
The Mavericks will host Summit League foe Western Illinois at 7 p.m. Monday. UNO defeated the Leathernecks on the road on Dec. 20.
